Rent-a-Ringer

Teams participating in The First Tee of Utah Invitational at the Salt Lake Country Club Monday, June 3 have a chance to add a great player to their team and increase their chances to win the trip for two to the 2020 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits or other great prizes. Teams may bring their own four players, or bring three and Rent-a-Ringer for their fourth. You can Rent-a-Ringer here by placing the winning bid for the player of your choice by 5:00 pm MDT, Friday, May 31. All Rent-a-Ringer proceeds go directly to supporting the kids at The First Tee of Utah. Why Rent-a-Ringer when you’re already paying for your entry? Two words: Ryder. Cup. Oh, other things, too, like winning or placing in the team competition or just plain fun. But we digress. The Ryder Cup trip will be awarded in a winner-take-all raffle. Each birdie any member of the team makes gets every member of the team one ticket in the raffle. Either gross or net. Two tickets for an eagle. Either gross or net. We’ll be playing a Shamble. Everybody hits a tee shot. The team picks the best and everybody plays their second shot from that spot. From there on in to the hole, each player player their own ball, each recording an individual score for each hole. Team scores will be the two best scores of the four -- two best balls -- one gross and one net. Players without a GHIN handicap will play at a zero handicap. Pros will play at a zero handicap.

Format

• Four-player teams.
• Shamble
  • Take the best drive, each player plays out from there to the hole, counting their own scores.
• Two best balls, one gross, one net.   
  • Players without a handicap (GHIN) will play at 0 handicap.
  • Pros play at 0 handicap.
  • Even par = 144.

Special Games

• Rent-a-Ringer
  • Teams can bring four players if they want, or bring three players and rent the services of a great player, such as top Utah pros and top amateurs, as their fourth team member.
• Total Score
• Par 3 Contests

Prizes

• Trip for two to the 2020 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.
  • Trip includes two Ryder Cup tickets, airfare, hotel, and a rental car.
    • The Ryder Cup trip will be awarded by raffle. Each team member will be awarded one raffle ticket for each birdie anyone on the team makes, either gross or net. (Thus the incentive to rent a ringer.)
    • Additional Ryder Cup trip raffle tickets can be purchased.
• Team Score (another incentive to rent a ringer)
  • First Place Team -- $300 Pro Shop credit for each player.
  • Second Place Team -- $150 Pro Shop credit for each player.
  • Third Place Team -- $50 Pro Shop credit for each player.
